Effie is an occupational therapist with a special interest in innovative and evidence-based neurological rehabilitation, focusing on rehab of the arm and hand. Effie has trained hundreds of occupational and physiotherapists across Australia and internationally, while concurrently working as a rehab clinician on a day-to-day basis. Effie’s reason for teaching stems from a commitment to bridging the gap between the latest research and real-life clinical application. She envisions a world where all people living with neurological conditions have access to evidence-based rehab.
Course Content:
This course is designed for allied health professionals working in the neuro rehab space – whatever your level of experience! Whether you’re just beginning to explore electrical stimulation, or have been using it for years, this course offers you a practical, evidence-based framework to help individuals living with neurological conditions regain meaningful arm and hand function.
Get updated with the latest evidence and learn how to use electrical stimulation in a task-specific, goal-directed way to optimise your patient/client outcomes. This course includes plenty of video demonstration/case study content and time for hands-on practice.
Learning Objectives:
- Apply the principles of neuroplasticity and motor learning theory to electrical stimulation and neurological rehabilitation
- Learn the various electrical stimulation types used in neuro rehab
- Compare the latest evidence for cyclical vs. functional electrical stimulation
- Understand the effect of electrical stimulation on neuroplasticity
- Combine electrical stimulation with other advanced rehab technologies
- Prescribe parameters for a range of presentations
- Electrode placement for all muscles of the arm and hand, including shoulder subluxation, scapular stability/mobility and reaching and grasping
- Use electrical stimulation in a task-specific way for retraining various reach and grasp patterns, including fine motor
- Apply learning with hands-on practice, video demonstrations and real-life case studies
