Effie

BSc Occupational Therapy

Since graduating from Curtin University in Western Australia in 2013, Effie has spent her career developing knowledge and skills in the field of neurological rehabilitation. Effie has worked across the public and private health sectors in Western Australia, Victoria and Queensland, helping young and older adults regain independence following neurological injury.

Effie moved to the Sunshine Coast in 2017 and prior to founding Elevate Neuro Rehab (previously known as Coastal CIMT) with her long-time friend Kirstin, worked as the Senior Occupational Therapist on an inpatient rehabilitation ward.

Effie strongly believes that all people living with neurological conditions should have access to innovative and evidence-based therapies – a vision that led to the establishment of Coastal CIMT in late 2019. Effie is highly skilled in upper limb and complex neurological rehab and while she comes with a calm and compassionate nature – she’ll certainly push you to reach your potential.

Effie is passionate about continued learning and when she’s not hard at work with her clients she focuses her energy toward teaching other clinicians. 

Effie understands that your rehab journey doesn’t stop at hospital discharge, and she is here to support you in the long haul to get back to doing the things you love. 

Outside of the workplace you’ll find Effie in the garden or with a book in her hand and her dog Storm by her side.

Kirstin

BSc Occupational Therapy

Kirstin is a compassionate and dedicated occupational therapist, with a special interest in neurorehabilitation. Graduating from Curtin University in Western Australia in 2013, Kirstin has honed her clinical expertise in various areas, including paediatrics, neurorehabilitation, mental health, acute care, and community-based practice. Her journey led her to England, where she discovered her true passion for upper limb neuro rehab, shaping her into the versatile therapist she is today, adept at treating both adults and children with neurological conditions.

In 2019, Kirstin co-founded Elevate Neuro Rehab with her dear friend and colleague, Effie, to fulfill the growing need for a dedicated allied health neurorehabilitation service on the Sunshine Coast. Elevate Neuro Rehab, formerly known as Coastal CIMT, stands as a testament to their commitment to providing comprehensive upper limb rehab alongside physical rehab, delivered by clinicians with extensive knowledge and experience in neuro rehab.

Kirstin deeply understands the significance of our hands and arms in everyday life and the profound impact neurological conditions can have on these vital functions. With her unwavering positivity and can-do attitude, Kirstin wholeheartedly believes in the potential of every individual she works with. Her passion lies in guiding people of all ages to realize their capabilities, build confidence, and reestablish crucial neural connections between the brain and hand.

Kirstin’s move to the Sunshine Coast in 2019 was driven by her love for the great outdoors, nature, and the ocean. When she’s not at work, you can find her engaged in various sports (her favourite – playing AFL!), and cherishing quality time with her beloved four-legged companion, Luna.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST / Paediatrics

Danielle

Graduating from La Trobe University in Melbourne in 2018, Danielle has focused her career on developing knowledge and skills within the Paediatric setting. Whilst living in Melbourne, Danielle worked with children of 0-18 years in Victoria’s largest hospital, gaining invaluable experience within a variety of settings including; the community, hospital-based acute and rehabilitation care. During this time Danielle also gained experience working with a variety of diagnoses from global developmental delay, to autism spectrum disorder, to cerebral palsy.

Danielle thoroughly enjoys working with children of all ages and seeing them achieve their goals. Danielle also enjoys helping the family of children to feel more confident in the support they are providing their child by upskilling families at the same time.

Danielle has always had a passion for working with children. Prior to and during studying Occupational Therapy, Danielle worked within a school for children with autism spectrum disorder where she developed her skills in behavior management and assisted with interventions targeting self-care goals. Danielle also had the opportunity through her studies to go to Broome and assist with the set-up of an Occupational Therapy service in a primary school to assist staff and students with fine motor, self-care, attention and routine based goals.

Alongside working at Elevate Neuro Rehab, Danielle also works part-time within the Department of Education helping children access, participate and engage to the best of their best abilities within the school environment.

Danielle moved to the Sunshine Coast in 2021 to be closer to her partner’s family and leave the Melbourne weather behind! Outside of the workplace, Danielle spends her time training for her next running or triathlon event or exploring new places on the weekend.

Danielle offers the following services:

  • Upper limb therapy includes tone management, bimanual therapy and constraint-induced movement therapy.
  • Goal-directed therapy to assist with functional goals such as self-care (e.g., dressing, toileting and feeding)
  • School readiness skills, e.g., writing, cutting, routine and attention.
  • Simple equipment prescription (e.g., modified cutlery, toilet step, etc).

ALLIED HEALTH ASSISTANT

Ellie

Ellie is currently studying Occupational Therapy at the University of Sunshine Coast and loving every minute of it. Ellie was drawn to pursue a career as an OT through her previous employment, where she worked alongside OT’s in custom building equipment for people with disabilities. During this experience, Ellie visited spinal units and rehab centers, and this is where she found her passion for helping people shine through.

When Ellie’s not at work, she loves to spend her time outdoors, at the beach, travelling and practicing yoga.

Storm is our most experienced occupational furapist. He is an expert in providing affection and putting therapy equipment away. When not at work Storm enjoys sunbaking and chasing bush turkeys.

Luna

Luna is Kirstin’s best four-legged friend and occupational furapist in training. Luna enjoys being around her people and bringing joy and love to everyone she meets. When not at work you can find Luna chewing on sticks, chasing balls, and giving lots of cuddles.
